Have Your Best Year in 2014!

Now that the holidays are over, many of you are looking forward to the new year. Did you make a few resolutions this year? Common resolutions cover areas like better health, more money, organization or time-management, etc. Maybe you are looking to improve some relationships as well. Are you planning to:

  • Lose weight
  • Eat better
  • Exercise more
  • Quit smoking
  • Make more money
  • Get more organized
  • Be more on time?

These are all great resolutions but if you have made them before, how often have you succeeded? Most people fall back into their old habits after a few weeks and these worthy goals are abandoned, usually by February (yes, it’s even happened to me)!

And if you think about it, a resolution that you don’t honor becomes symbolic of the other problems and bad habits you might be stuck in. When that happens, the bad habits go back on auto-pilot and become even more ingrained. And over time, those failures can increase the fear and apprehension of making changes and success is harder to achieve!

Why not make 2014 your break-out year? Why not have more success as you overcome old patterns, one’s that hold you back from the life you desire? You have nothing to lose except old habits you want to get rid of!

What to do differently

1. Get a support system

For you or anyone to change habits, it takes support, encouragement and guidance. Changing eating or other lifestyle habits requires more skill and understanding then you might realize (habits repeat on a more sub-conscious level, like instinct). Without the right foundation and effective support and guidance, many people revert back to their comfort zone (things that are familiar and easy). That’s why people get stuck where they are! So don’t try it alone. Success will be less likely!

2. Take smaller steps

Smaller steps are easier to accomplish and help provide early successes. That, in turn, helps create forward momentum and positive feedback for improvement.

For example, if you want to trim down, don’t try to lose 20 pounds all at once with a crash diet! Why not aim for a few pounds each week? And there is no need to diet anyway, it’s a failed concept. Why not learn to switch some of the weight-inducing foods you eat for more whole, balanced foods? That way, you can shed a few pounds naturally each week and you don’t need to diet, count calories or take weight loss pills (those tend to create dependency anyway)!

In other words, there are better approaches available, with support and guidance, and those help to drastically improve the chances of real success this year (if you decide to work with me, I guarantee results with your resolutions and challenges).

3. Keep stress down and minimize disruption

Many people resolve to become healthier, exercise more or quit smoking all at once, without a workable plan and attainable goals. This plan needs to be based on small, achievable steps and weekly goals to get the process going. You need a map to chart your course or you’ll get lost in the process.

So don’t take on so much that your lifestyle goes out the window and you find you are trying to change too many things at once. Anything that disrupts your lifestyle too much will increase stress and frustration, a process that will likely lead back to your comfort zone and to failure. You will return to old habits, one’s that you know, even when they are unhealthy or counterproductive to the success you desire!

Your recipe for success in 2014

Creating a plan with small steps, ongoing support and achievable goals is the right recipe for success in 2014! And with those elements in place, you can improve your life, health, relationships or finances in a matter of a few weeks!

Here’s the thing: Once change starts, bringing positive results and improvement for the better; it creates momentum, and other challenges begin to fall away as confidence grows and improvements grow. I’ve seen it with many clients!
