Drugs Don’t Cure!

by Steven Carney on June 28, 2012

I’m sure you’ve seen numerous drug ads (they’re everywhere), and you’ve probably known friends or family who take drugs for lifestyle conditions. By lifestyle conditions, I’m focused on drugs for non-contagious diseases or infections. Drugs for the following conditions are suspect:

  • High blood pressure (BP)
  • High cholesterol/triglycerides
  • High blood sugar/glucose
  • Excess weight
  • Restless legs
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Joint inflammation and resulting pain
  • Back stiffness or related pain (often muscle based)
  • Many cancers

These are not true diseases like polio or malaria. You don’t “catch” these health problems from a bacteria or virus. They are largely driven by how you live! If you exempt accident, injury, or serious genetic abnormality, 70% (or more) of these chronic conditions are driven by unhealthy nutrition, inactive lifestyle, smoking, poor sleep, and the many unhealthy choices we make every day. Most of the above list are really not diseases at all!

Unfortunately, our medical system is so broken that entire industries feed on those who live poorly for decades and eventually develop more serious problems like a heart attack, stroke, organ failure, or require serious medical interventions, all largely preventable!

Most drugs will NOT cure you!

It’s a myth that drugs cure lifestyle diseases or conditions! Your favorite drug company spends billions in advertising annually, happy to take your money for years, knowing full well that the drugs you are taking will not cure you! Think about that! Drugs for BP, cholesterol (statins, generating the most billions), glucose, anti-clotting, chronic pain, etc., treat symptoms of your conditions but they will not cure you, a situation that is ridiculous on its face!

Sadly, millions of people take these drugs every day under the false belief that they are  treating their underlying health conditions when they are not! I call it “being warehoused” because the real cause is almost never appropriately investigated or resolved, just covered up by masking whatever symptoms may be detectable. You might feel better (or feel nothing as is true for high BP/cholesterol, high glucose) but in fact, you still have the underlying problems!

Unless you make the right adjustments to how you live, you will never improve your health or truly flourish! You or your insurance company will waste money every month! In the mean time, those unnatural man-made concoctions will disrupt your other metabolic and bodily functions, sometime causing serious illness or death! We’ve been deluded into thinking that this system of profits and corruption is “healthcare” a falsehood if there ever was one!

The bottom line is that these drugs should only be the last resort and only after all other lifestyle adjustments are undertaken for 3-6 months, unless you are critically ill today!

Drugs kill and injure every year!

If you haven’t heard it, an FDA estimate showed that 100,000 die annually from properly taken prescription drugs! Yes, drugs kill lots of people when taken as directed! And if you add all the ER visits for drug overdoses and other problems, the number is millions more annually! The FDA accepts these outcomes, they accept that some people will be injured or killed when they approve drugs. It’s part of their cold and calculating risk/benefit analysis, often based on biased research!

Here’s another influence that feeds the “drug warehousing” medical culture we have: Most doctors are trained to diagnose and treat disease, they are not experts in how to achieve optimum health! They don’t take the time to coach or support people every week the way a health or life coach does. They are mostly peddlers for the drug industry, often paid and manipulated by slick drug salespeople (see links 4 and 5 to videos).

Ask these 3 critical questions:

Before you ever agree to take a lifestyle prescription drug, you should ask the following 3 questions:

  1. How soon will I be cured if I take the drug?
  2. What alternative lifestyle therapies are available?
  3. Can I have 60-90 days to try alternative approaches?

If your doctor is honest, they will say “Never” to the first question. They will offer little help to for the second question (perhaps a few generalities). And they should always give you time to explore alternative methods unless you are critically ill (even then, improving lifestyle can contribute to healing and a return to health)!

The truth for most lifestyle-driven health conditions (ones that typically lack significant symptoms) is that the problem often lies with your diet, activity or other lifestyle choices. Your doctor should refer you to a qualified health coach, one who will provide insight, support and encouragement until you reach your goals! Even if you have genetic predispositions or family history, lifestyle adjustments are often the best place to start and they can be quite effective!

Why do people take drugs?

Billions in marketing and advertising, often built on biased and manipulated “research” which exaggerates the benefits of drugs and minimizes the side effects. Plus, the media loves the idea of a dramatic, new “miracle cure” and they are happy to hype and tease a story which claims to offer a breakthrough drug for a disease, even if the research behind the drug is biased and exaggerated!

The first link below includes the following comment in reference to drug studies:

“Published evidence tends to overestimate efficacy [effectiveness] and underestimate safety risks.”

That same research study states this:

“Regarding pharmacological [drug] interventions, cases of reporting bias were, for example, identified in the treatment of the following conditions: depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, pain, migraine, cardiovascular disease, gastric ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, urinary incontinence, atopic dermatitis, diabetes mellitus type 2, hypercholesterolemia [high cholesterol], thyroid disorders, menopausal symptoms, various types of cancer (e.g. ovarian cancer and melanoma), various types of infections (e.g. HIV, influenza and Hepatitis B), and acute trauma.”

That single paragraph should clear up any doubts you might have about how this industry is willing to take advantage of you and your doctor! Other research has shown similar results and overall, they demonstrate a pattern of drug industry bias and deception! This industry really is about profit, lobbying and power rather than making you healthy (see the shocking fourth and fifth links by an industry veteran as she exposes how drug companies operate).

The bottom line is that you can improve or resolve many lifestyle conditions by making small adjustments to your lifestyle! Work with a supportive health coach who can provide the necessary guidance and support. Only your body can heal, most drugs won’t ever heal you!
