Boomers Aren’t Healthy!

If you are a baby Boomer (or have Boomer family or friends) and concerned about disease prevention, optimum health, and longevity as you age, the following information is urgent!

A recent study shows that Baby Boomers (adults born between 1946 and 1964) are significantly less healthy than their parents. The study followed several groups from 1988 to 2010 and found that Boomer’s health is much worse than their parents (even though some might live longer due to drastic medical interventions). Adult Boomers surveyed between ages 46-64 have more:

  • High blood pressure/hypertension
  • Higher cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Disability
  • Weight/obesity problems

Only about 10% of Boomers have great health (like me), whereas about 33% of their parents were in good health at a similar age. And because the bubble of 75 million boomers have worse health and more chronic disease (largely driven by lifestyle), they are expected to strain the medical system badly! These health and disability issues will challenge entire families, including the children of Boomers who will probably end up as their caretakers.

We should all be concerned and looking for better solutions, because standard medical treatment for chronic diseases and obesity is ineffective! Doing nothing about these root causes risks early death and the survival of many families!

The study information was gathered from the NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), a survey used for various health studies.

What’s unfortunate is that boomers have a reputation for being healthier than previous generations, clearly a myth! Although there are exceptions, many Boomers are not aging well, even as they pop pills and drugs like candy!

Drugs don’t cure

Unfortunately, drugs for chronic conditions and diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol (a major fraud, as high cholesterol was never the real cause of heart disease), obesity, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, depression, anxiety, etc., are intentionally designed NOT to cure but to mask symptoms and create dependency! It’s true, even chemo drugs costing many thousands of dollars don’t cure cancer.

Although drugs for chronic conditions don’t cure the underlying causes, drug companies want you to be a life-long customer (see my Links and Articles page for industry videos, plus multiple posts on this blog site on drugs and research fraud).

These chronic diseases are really centered around the Standard American Diet, or SAD, one of the worst diets in the western world! Our diet is full of industrial, processed/lab food, junk food and fast food, which are largely devoid of important nutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, etc.). Research has shown that those industrial foods are designed to keep you buying, pumped full of the trinity of food addiction: salt, sugar and fat, something the food industry knows full well! As a result, those same addictive foods will cause your health to decline. It’s inevitable!

Many people think it’s okay to eat those convenience foods regularly but they are terrible for weight management, metabolism, longevity and aging (they age you faster for many reasons). Eating those foods  guarantee more fat, more wrinkles, more gray hair, less energy, along with chronic disease and disability! For most adults on the SAD, it’s a matter of when this will happen, not if.

From weight gain to cancer

If you are 10, 20 or 50 pounds overweight, your system will have chronic, low-grade inflammation, known to drive a host of chronic diseases, like heart disease/stroke, arthritis, diabetes, auto-immune problems, depression and even cancer (see my previous posts on these issues).

Did you know? Cancer is largely a problem of an unhealthy immune system; most adults fight cancer cells/mutations every day. But the SAD, with too many refined/processed foods and carbs, along with systemic inflammation and inactivity all contribute to cancer spread. Genetic predispositions are a rare contributor (see my previous posts on cancer and disease myths).

Overweight people often have hypertension, hormonal imbalances, metabolic problems and develop more wear and tear on their joints (especially knees, hips and spine). Those joint problems and conditions like arthritis and depression (also tied to inflammation), contribute to less activity, more disability and more declining health, which is exactly what the surveys and studies show.

Even though it’s possible to have easy weight loss and disease prevention, with small improvements to the nourishment you take in, many people don’t explore that possibility enough. Most doctors know little or nothing about nutrition or supplements, falsely attacking those approaches as unproven for preventing or treating disease (see my previous posts which explore these issues in greater detail).

More Boomer studies

Additional Boomer studies show that at least 60% of adults aged 50 to 64 have a health condition like the ones I’ve mentioned, from hypertension to heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, etc. These are again troubling numbers and yet, as with other adults, these problems are mostly driven by lifestyle, not genetics!

What many adults don’t realize is that the food you eat and the activity you enjoy (or lack), can activate metabolic genes, either health or disease genes, depending on the choices you make each day. That’s why eating more whole, unprocessed foods and staying active have the power to improve health and heal disease. Non-drug solutions are all around you!

Health decline is spreading!

On a related note, these same chronic health problems are spreading to younger ages, meaning the children of Boomers are continuing the downward spiral of worsening health for the next generation! For example:

  • Over 60% of adults under 39 have undiagnosed hypertension
  • About 33% of children already overweight or obese
  • About 65-70% of those over 21 are overweight or obese, numbers that are steadily rising each year

Younger people also have rising rates of heart disease: about 80% of young adults killed in accidents have signs of heart disease and atherosclerosis (clogged arteries). Strokes are also rising in those under 40, and there are rapidly increasing rates of cancer, especially skin cancer rising 6 fold over previous years. Breast cancer is also growing among younger adults and like skin cancer, the forms are more aggressive.

Because these health conditions are largely tied to lifestyle, they can be easily treated with a few tweaks to lifestyle and nutrition. These chronic health problems are mostly under your control and your kid’s control. In most cases, you and your children really don’t need drugs because they don’t cure anyway!
