Blast 5 Pounds and Boost Energy!

by Steven Carney on May 17, 2012

Blast 5 pounds in about 10 days and get a long-term energy boost for your ultimate reward! This program is built on what you eat rather than counting calories (not all calories are equal!) This approach will help you shed pounds without dieting or calorie restriction. You won’t go hungry or feel deprived even as you lose weight!

In general, the program is based on switching refined and processed foods for “Power Foods” that are more whole and balanced, plus “Power Drinks” that are lighter and more hydrating. The foods will digest more slowly and not add weight. In fact, these foods can help you to lose weight by stopping the constant spikes and drops of blood sugar that most people have all day!

1. Switch out refined carbs/sugary snacks for more balanced Power Foods.

Typical snacks like candy bars, cookies, snack cakes, crackers (especially wheat), chips (corn or potato), pretzels, ice cream treats, etc., will give you fake, short-term energy. You’ll crash soon after because refined carbs spike your blood sugar, causing insulin to be released. That process takes the excess sugar and stores it as fat. Plus those refined foods drain vitamins and minerals out of your system! Manufactured foods really can harm your metabolism!

Instead, use Power Snacks that are more whole and complete! They’ll give you more sustained energy with less cravings! Good choices are toasted nuts (no salt). Try mixing almonds, walnuts and cashews and lightly toast at home. Or eat a snack of fresh fruit (grapes and berries are great), some low-fat string cheese, low-fat/sugar yogurt, veggie sticks, mixed olives, or a small serving of lean protein like salmon or tuna salad in a lettuce wrap.

Snacks like these offer more complex nutrition, with some protein, vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. These Power Snacks can save you 100-200 empty calories of junk food each day!

2. Switch out sodas and sugary drinks with high-fructose corn syrup (HFC).

Common sweeteners like sugar and HFC are nutritionally unbalanced and also cause depletion of the vitamins and minerals you need for proper metabolic function! Even diet soda is turning out to be bad, because it affects your brain, causing cravings for more sweets. Diet soda also has unhealthy acids, colorings and preservatives while offering little nutritional value.

Instead, try a variety of Power Drinks such as water (add a little lemon or orange to pump up the flavor), coffee (okay with a little milk), tea (green or white are both great), or flavored, herbal teas (lots of choices for your taste). No-sugar-added fruit smoothies can be a good choice if under 20 grams of sugar per serving. This summer, add ice and water for a refreshing summer drink.

These Power Drinks will provide good hydration along with some vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants! You can easily save another 100-200 calories a day with these healthier Power Drinks.

3. Switch out 50% of your white carbs at meals for your favorite veggies!

Here again, the goal is to stabilize blood sugar for more sustained energy. This approach will also cut weight gain and support weight loss. White carbs (white potatoes, fries, white rice, pasta, etc.) will spike blood sugar more easily than complex carbs (brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, veggies, etc.)!

By adding more of your favorite veggies for half of your regular carbs, you will slow digestion and minimize your glucose rise. The more balanced nutrition in these Power Foods will help nourish your cells rather than ending up as fat on your stomach, hips or rear! Save another 100-200 calories/day with this tip!

In general, all veggies with color (red, yellow, green, orange, etc.) are good (cauliflower is good too). Beans and legumes are also good alternatives and contain protein. Add some beans to your veggies for variety.

It also helps to include some fun activity, such as brisk walking, dancing, running, cycling, playing with your kids, etc., several times a week for 15-20 minutes. That will help to reawaken your metabolism and vitality! You’ll feel more energized and you’ll also sleep better!

Overall, you will be amazed by including more Power Foods and Drinks/Drinks in your life. As weight goes down, energy will go up. You’ll feel better than you have in years, both physically and mentally! It’s not hard to learn and you will benefit for your whole life, saving pounds of excess fat and adding extra years to your life!
